DAMBAI COLLEGE OF EDUCATION COMMEMORATE 16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM AGAINST SEXUAL HARASSMENT

The Dambai College of Education has launched 16 – Days of Activism Against Sexual Harassment on 25th November, 2019. The annual campaign which began in 1991 across the world by the United Nations (UN) is being commemorated this year under the theme “Orange the World: Generation Equality Stands against Rape!”. Prior to the launch, the Staff and Students of the College embarked on a procession through the principal street of Dambai Town. Amist brass music from the College brass band, the staff and students held placards with inscription such as Avoid Sexual Harassment, Stop Sexual Violence, DACE Community Stands Against Rape.

After the procession the commemoration was launched with the lightening of a flame at the forecourt of the College Administration block. This was followed by hosting of a banner and decoration of the campus with orange colours.

The campaign, which will end on 10th December, 2019, will be marked with series of activities such as Visitation to selected basic schools, panel discussions, radio discussion and poetry recitals and debate on the motion “Rape: women as victims should be blamed”. The programme will be climaxed with a lecture by the Principal of the College, Mrs. Benedicta Awusi Atiku, on the topic “Lecture on gender based violence and sexual harassment in Tertiary Institution”

The programme is being coordinated by the Gender Committee of the College and supported by Safe School Focal Persons.
